The United States are paired up with England in what is surely going to be one of the most watched matches of the entire tournament. This match was almost destined to be made. The good thing for both teams is that this is their first match of the tournament. So no matter what the result each team will have a chance to still progress if they take care of business in their next two group stage matches. Not a particularly hard group but Slovenia could pose problems if not taken seriously.
One surprise omission can be found up front. Charlie Davies was left out of the United States squad but not because of national team coach Bob Bradley. In fact, his club team Sochaux declared him not fit. Now Charlie Davies has been in recovering ever since his car crash back in October. Our friends over at Match Fit USA did a great write up on his journey back. Outside of Davies there really were no surprises unless you count Freddy Adu's omission as a surprise. If you follow soccer you should be aware that his career has not quite gone to plan.
