The Black Cats had record signing Asamoah Gyan to thanks as his last-gasp goal secured a 1-1 draw against Newcastle in the Wear-Tyne derby last weekend. The draw meant Sunderland continued to occupy the sixth spot on the league table with 34 points from 23 games. Manager Steve Bruce was satisfied with the result, but was shocked immediately after the game as star striker Darren Bent handed in a transfer request. Bent is likely to move to Aston Villa this week.
