World Cup Teams - England

I just want to take a second to congratulate Fabio Capello. Why is that? Because the man knows how to pick a squad. In my humble opinion, he picked the perfect squad. He even managed to bring a player out of international retirement. Ok, I would have preferred it to have been Paul Scholes, but Carragher is useful. He is useful because England only have one decent right back, Glen Johnson. And if he goes down, I believe Carragher will fill in. There is one player in the squad who doesn’t really belong and that is Darren Bent. I don’t rate him and Capello doesn’t either. I compare his selection to a puppy receiving a treat for pooping on some newspaper; they have done a good job and you want to reinforce this kind of behavior. And if there are any other puppies watching, they hopefully will take note. Does that make sense? Ok it doesn’t. He really picked him for a lack of choice (Zamora would have taken his spot if he could have proven his fitness). You pick Bent to give hope to other young English goal scorers and to go along with ‘picking players on form’. The goalkeeping situation was straight forward, no matter what Sam Allardyce says about it (does he annoy anyone else or is it just me?). He made the right decisions at the back, with Ledley King once again proving that when fit, he is one of the best English defenders around. In the midfield, this squad is straight forward, but a tough decision or two will have to be made. And up top all that really matters is that Rooney is fit. Crouch has a chance to sneak into the first team, and Defoe will look to come off the bench to provide a spark.

Well done Capello, I have faith that you will axe the right ones in a month or so.
