World Cup Qualifying Concluded

The World Cup qualifying is officially over and the last 6 teams have been revealed.  4 teams from Europe, 1 from Africa, and 1 from South America have rounded out the last few slots for the Finals next summer.
Greece beat the Ukraine 1-0 thanks to a Dimitrios Salpigidis first half strike.  Greece will be looking to get back to their Euro 2004 form in the World Cup next summer.

Slovenia provided somewhat of a stunner by beating Russia 1-0 from a first half goal from Zlatko Dedic.  Russia had two players sent off to only provide more damage to their comeback efforts.  The tie was level at 2-2 with Slovenia going through on the away goal rule.

Portgual beat Bosnia-Herzogovina as predicted.  A Raul Meireles finish was the only goal of the match.  Portugal won 2-0 on aggregate.

France and Ireland played to a 1-1 draw that saw France go through 2-1 on aggregate.  Robbie Keane leveled the tie when a overtime goal from William Gallas and a dubious handball from Henry proved fatal to the Irish side.

Uruguay beat Costa Rica 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 tie in the second leg.  Sebastian Abreu’s goal was canceled out by Walter Centeno’s effort.

In the African Qualifying tie, Algeria went through thanks to a wonder strike from Antar Yahia.
