FIFA announced the 7 teams that will join South Africa as being seeded when the World Cup draw takes place on Friday. South Africa is seeded automatically because they are the host nation. Below are the 8 seeded teams.

You will notice that France are not in one of the coveted seeded slots. So they will be a dangerous floater when the draw takes place. Is FIFA punishing the French for that handball by Henry? They won’t fess up to it, but probably. Normally the seeded teams are picked based on a combination of things such as world ranking and previous performance in World Cup finals. This time FIFA decided to use the October world rankings alone to determine the best teams and how to seed them. This is fine. I have no problems with doing this. I don’t like that they did it 2 days before the draw is scheduled to take place.
The other dangerous team that not many people are talking about is Portugal. They will also be floating dangerously. I assure you England won’t be laughing if they get a group with Portugal in it. The draw is Friday and it will be shown live at 12:00 pm on ESPN!
