World Cup Qualifying - European Playoffs

The European playoffs will conclude tomorrow evening with the last round of playoffs to determine the last 4 teams in the 2010 World Cup.

Russia holds a 2-1 advantage over Slovenia.  Diniyar Bilyaletdinov had a brace while Nejc Pecnik provided Slovenia’s lone goal in the 88th minute.  Russia will be the away team for the 2nd leg.
Greece and Ukraine played to a stalemate on Saturday.  Greece have not been flying as high as they were when the shockingly won the 2004 European Championships.  Look for former Chelsea player Andriy Shevchenko to try and book Ukraine’s spot to South Africa.

Away goals are vital in two leg match ups in soccer and France holds the edge over Ireland with a 1-0 win thanks to Nicolas Anelka.  Robbie Keane and John O’shea will be hoping they can turn the tide around in France tomorrow.

Portugal beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 thanks to a header from Bruno Alves.  Portugal will be without star player Cristiano Ronaldo for the away trip.  Ronaldo has only just returned to training from an ankle injury.
