Every time a new ball comes out the first thing that people say is that the ball will give keepers nightmares. They have been saying this since at least the earliest World Cup I can remember in 1994. By now you would think they have some type of boomerang technology implanted in the balls. Not quite but Adidas assures us they are working on it. The new ball for the World Cup was recently unveiled and here it is. Not bad looking at all. Goes with the South African vibe perfectly I think. Most important is how does it fly. Well Adidas is calling this their most accurate ball ever. They have managed a way to cut the number of panels nearly in half from 14 panels on the 2006 World Cup ball to 8 panels here. According to Adidas this is a perfectly rounded ball. I would hope they all were.
The name Jabulani comes from a Zhulu language and means ‘to celebrate’. Let’s hope there is plenty of celebrations to come next summer.
